Laura Martin, DO

Urogynecologist and Pelvic Floor Reconstructive Surgeon

Dr. Laura Martin is a board certified, fellowship trained urogynecologist and pelvic floor reconstructive surgeon. She is a highly skilled physician who specializes in minimally invasive surgery including both vaginal and laparoscopic approaches. She continues to be at the cutting edge of her field and was the first surgeon in Miami Florida to perform vNOTES or vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery.

She also performs sacral and peripheral neuromodulation procedures for overactive bladder and urinary retention. She has a passion for excellence and safety in the OR and in clinical practice. She has been recognized for her efforts with the Cleveland Clinic Safety Champion Award. Beyond the clinic, she was honored for her outstanding work in service with the D.O. of the year award. She’s also led and served on several specialized committees to develop medical and educational programing for women and minoritized persons. For her service and clinical expertise, she has been recognized by Legacy magazine’s South Florida’s Top Black Healthcare Professionals.

Education and experience:

Dr. Martin earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Vassar College in 2003 and studied at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University in 2006. She graduated medical school from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010. She then completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia where she served in a leadership role as Administrative Chief Resident and was recognized for her superior surgical skills with the Gynecology award and Minimally invasive AAGL award.

She desired to extend her training and completed a Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship with Cleveland Clinic Florida in 2018 followed by a Public Voices Fellowship in 2020. She has developed mentorship programs for future physicians and has been heavily involved in surgical training. She has also published her scientific works in peer reviewed journals and presented her research at national and international scientific meetings including AUGS and IUGA in such locations as South Africa and Netherlands.

Philosophy:

Dr. Martin works at the cutting edge of her field to bring her patients a variety of options to improve their quality of life regarding pelvic floor disorders. She believes the opportunities for education and innovation are endless in her field. She enjoys working with her patients to build tailored treatment plans to deliver evidence based medical care.

However, she states that it is of most importance to her that, “I provide the highest level of care for my patients and elevate the care provided by those who work with me.”
